Howdy!
Well everyone's doing it and I don't see why we should be any different, so welcome to the first blog from The Mike Brown Radio Show (you'll find others at www.myspace/mikebrownfallingdown).
Yesterday's show was a bit manic. Firstly, I forgot a load of discs which wasnt a major problem, but made certain parts of the show a bit more difficult to do. I also had a guest on, luckily the fact that I didn't write any questions down before hand didn't matter as he was nice and chatty and we got on without all the stuffy questions that some radio presenters use. Anyway, the person I was interviewing was Andy Train, a really nice bloke who invited me along to his gig at The Dorchester Hotel this Thursday. It turns out that our paths have crossed in the past, we originally met back in 1992 on Radio Cracker in Hull and again when he used to work in A&E at Hull Royal Infirmary. He actually treated me after I got sprayed in the face with some chemicals whilst working at a D.I.Y store. I wish him the best off luck with his "Relaxed to the Point of Incontinence" comedy show. You can find out what he's doing and where, here: http://www.andytrain.co.uk/index2.html
I also said farewell to two of my fellow presenters. They're not dead or anything, in fact they haven't even left the station, they've just moved to different time slots! So good luck to both Paul Ashworth who leaves the 10 - 2 slot and to Karen Everitt who leaves the 6 - 7 slot. It's been nice being sandwiched between you both!
After the show was over, I was invited along with Paul & Donna Ashworth and Joachim to The Inkerman Tavern in Hull to see Big Dave do his Karaoke & Quiz night.
I wasn't sure what to expect as the pub is located in the back streets of a dingy industrial area and I've heard that there was a brothel nearby! Still, I'll try anything once (well most things!) and braced myself for what sights might greet me when I walked through through the door! Now, walking through the door actually became a problem as we couldn't find the place! Donna who was driving rang Dave to ask where the hell it was which is sensible, were as I just got out of the car and shouted "DAVE!!! CAN YAA HEAR MEEE!?!" Dave actually got in his car and came and found us and we followed him to the pub.
Now, when we got inside we were actually very surprised! The Inkerman Tavern was actually full of friendly faces and it actually looked as though it had recently been done up. I remember Joachim being particularly pleased with the rather splendid looking bookcase on the back wall which was crammed with erm....books!
If you know me then you'll know that I'm not the biggest fan of karaoke, in fact I hate it!
It winds me up the fact that people always sing the same songs over and over and over again! Why don't they sing something different for a change? I know everyone has their favorite song but I find it hard to believe that everyone's is "I Will Survive" and if it's not that bilge it's something from "Grease" or "Dirty Dancing". So taking my hatred for Kara-bloody-oke into account, you'll be surprised to hear that I got up and sang! OK, I didn't do it on my own and I was practically forced to, but I think I did my bit! I sang the Housemartin's classic "Caravan of Love" with Paul & Joachim to end the night and it was beautiful....It nearly brought a tear to my eye! No, not really!
Today, I'm feeling pretty rough and I can still taste Guinness in my mouth, so it must have been a good night! I recommend it to anyone! For directions to The Inkerman click here.
Take Care, Mike.
