Mike Brown's Sunday Routine!

Howdy!

Ever wondered what I do before I go on the radio? No, I thought not. Still, I'm not going to let that stop me from tellling you anyway!

Before the show

My Sunday starts around 9 in the morning, this obviously depends on how much I've had to drink the night before! Once I've managed to crawl out of bed I'll normally jump into the bath, sometimes I even put water in it!

Now, I really like chilling out in the bath with some good music on in the background. Sometimes I relax with a good book, sometimes a glass of wine, sometimes both. I have often been known to top up the water when it starts getting cold, and on Sunday I did just that!

Taking this into account, the time has now moved on to 10.30 and I've been "chillin'" for an hour and a half!!! I still have got to get my stuff together for the show... oh yeah, and something to eat might be nice too!

So, once I've dried my bits and shoved a towel on, I leg it downstairs to check the TV channels. I do this just in case something serious has happened overnight, like a member of the Royal family dying... well, you never know! Normally, the only thing that's happened while I've been in my own world is Britney Spears has gone mad again, but whats new!?!

By now the time is 11:00, I'm still yet to pack my holdall and my bus leaves at 11.20! I quickly scurry around for some CDs I want to play on the show later, a few gags, a weather report and of course my jingles! I couldn't do a show without my jingles, what do you mean thats a bit sad!? Jingles are like an artist's signature at the bottom of a painting, the gravy on your Sunday lunch, the kappa tracksuit on a chav, I think you get my point!

My bus leaves the Hull Interchange at 12.15 and I arrive in not so sunny Withernsea at 1:25ish, this time can vary from week to week depending on whether the bus driver has put his foot down or not!

Once I'm there, I normally pop into AJ's cafe bar which is next door to the Seaside FM to say "Hi" before dragging my holdall through the station door and up the stairs to the studio. Now, at this point I'd like to thank Dave (who is on the air before me) for letting me invade the studio before 2pm to set my stuff up and get ready.

The Show

I get on the air at 2.03, read the weather, play my jingles and get the first song on. Its at this point I realise that I still haven't had anything to eat and will now have to wait until 7pm when I get home. D'oh!

I thoroughly enjoyed the programme this week, but I suppose that is the whole idea behind the Mike Brown Radio Show, so if I didn't enjoy it myself too something would be wrong somewhere!!!

For those of you who asked me to list the tracks on the Same Old Song & Northern Soul Threesome, they are as follows:

On The Same Old Song, we featured a track by The Freemason's called "Love on my mind". This track was sampled from the song "This Time Baby" by a lady called Jackie Moore. The original was released in 1979 and got to number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart in the US.

On the Northern Soul Threesome this week, we heard...

  • JJ Barnes - "Sweet Sherry"
  • Little Miss Soul - "You've Made Me So Very Happy"
  • Casualeers - "Dance, Dance, Dance"

My guest arrived at 3pm. It was Shirley Higton, a lady I met at the "Carnivale 69" Comedy Lounge in Hull a few weeks ago. When I saw her at the gig she was performing comedy songs on her keyboard, but when she came on the show I was surprised to hear about the serious side of her songwriting. Shirley told me how she is active in raising support for local hospitals (such as in Bridlington & Withernsea) who face closures and downgrading. Shirley has penned a song about this, which she performed in the studio and in case you missed it you can hear it again on her myspace page.

My guests this week are the fabulous Scarlet Light's Theatre Company, who will be talking about their future shows in the area. Collectively their influences come from Victoria Wood, The Office, Julie Walters, Bottom, French and Saunders, South Park, Bill Hicks, Comic Strip and Steve Coogan, so who knows what I'm going to get on Sunday!

So, until Sunday Afternoon...
Take care & have a good week.
