On air now: The autopilot
Mike Brown meets Scarlet Lights
Me with Kerrie Marsh, Lucy Thurlow, Caroline Block, Emma Wilson and Louisa Hutchinson from Scarlet Lights Theatre Company.
The entire cast of Scarlet Lights visited the studio to talk about their up and coming appearance at the Carnivale 69 Comedy Night in Hull.
The girls all met on a performing arts course at Hull College which is now where Lucy, Louisa, Kerrie and Caroline lecture, while after leaving college Emma took employment in retail.
Once their day jobs are out of the way, the girls become Scarlet Lights and regularly meet to reherse and write new material. So far, they've performanced at 'Off The Road' at the Adelphi, 'Buzz Comedy' in Beverley, their first solo gig at the Sailmakers' Arms in Hull and at 'Carnivale 69' at Durty Nellies in Hull.
When I asked Scarlet Lights about their influences, they told me Victoria Wood, Julie Walters, Steve Coogan, Bill Hicks and the TV shows South Park, Comic Strip, Bottom, French and Saunders and The Office, which maybe explains the content of their current sketch.
Their current show is called 'Sheality' which is a sketch about "their relationships with men and becoming a woman" said Lucy. She also told me that it starts with them all faking an orgasm which I tried to get them to perform this on air, but the boss thought it was a bad idea! I still insist that it would have made great radio. Personally, I think it was because the boss hasn't heard one for such a long time and didn't want his nose rubbing in it!
