Here is a selection of local events from Seaside FM's What's On Where guide for July 2010:
- Thursday 1st July 2010
- Do something amazing and Give Blood at the Hedon Scout Hall on Sheriff Highway in Hedon on Thursday 1st July 2010. Sessions take place between 2:15pm to 4:00pm or 5:00pm to 7:30pm. Call The National Blood Service on to book an appointment.
- Friday 2nd July 2010
- St. Andrew's Church in Paull are holding a concert on 2nd July starting at 7.30pm featuring Alan spedding on the organ. Tickets are available by calling (01964) 544154 at the cost of £10 which includes post concert refreshments.
- Saturday 3rd July 2010
- DJ Dave plays his summertime mix of music in Valley gardens in Withernsea starting at 11.00am.
- The 65th Annual Show of Roos and District Horticultural Society takes place on Saturday 3rd July at Burton Pidsea Memorial Hall. Expect to find lots of Charity, Craft and Table Top Stalls from 2.00pm, with the main show opening at 2.30, sports at 3.00pm, the presentation of cups at 4.00pm by the Hon. Mrs Susan Cunliffe-Lister of Burton Agnes Hall and the Raffle Drawn at 4.15pm.
- Day one of the St. Patricks Church Flower Festival takes place on Saturday 3rd July from 10.00 am - 5.00 pm. Admission is £2 which includes refreshments. This is their major fund raising event this year. Proceeds of this event will go towards keeping the historic building of St. Patrick's Church maintained, open and there for future generations - without our fund raising events and the support of the local community this would not be possible. - Sunday 4th July 2010
- A Table top sale takes place at The Floral Hall in Hornsea between 9.00am and 3.00pm on 4th July 2010. Contact Tracey Wilson on for details.
- Withernsea 5 Mile Race & 3k Fun Run takes place on Sunday 4th July 2010, with the 3k fun run starting at 9.45am and the 5 mile race starting at 10.45am. Full details are on the entry form at withernseaharriers.org.
- Hornsea Open Gardens with all proceeds going to Marie Curie Cancer Care will be on Sunday 4th July 2010 from 10.00am to 4.00pm. Admission is £3 per adult with accompanied children free. There are 17 gardens to visit and plants, produce, garden items and refreshments will be on sale at most gardens. Included this year are the Allotments on Atwick Road,The Hornsea Museum's Hidden Garden, Garden of local artist Tracy Savage and the Old Hall Gardens. Programes are on sale on the day at participating gardens and from the Marie Curie Display on Willows Corner, Newbegin from 10am on Saturday 26th June and on the 4th July.
- The Al Kilvo Band takes to the stage in Valley Gardens, Withernsea from 1.00pm.
- The East Yorkshire branch of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) will be celebrating the charity’s 150th anniversary with a celebration at Bewholme, near Driffield on 4th July 2010. The birthday party will take place in a marquee at Manor House, Bewholme on from 4.30pm and will include a two course meal and live entertainment, a licensed bar and a fundraising raffle. Third generation farmers Stewart and Caroline Elliott are delighted to support the charity by hosting the event at their farm. In addition, a donation from the event will go to support the village's St John The Baptist Church and The Playing Field Association. Tickets cost £12.50 and are available from Sally Conner, RABI's Regional Officer for North East England.

- Hornsea Chamber of Trade's monthly will be held at the Victoria Hotel, Market Place, Hornsea from 7.30pm. Please note this is a revised date and all welcome to attend.
- Wednesday 7th July 2010
- Humberside Police are holding a public meeting for the South East #Holderness Police & Partners Community Forum on Wednesday 7th July. The meeting will indentify crime, disorder and community safety issues within the area and will report on how any problems can be resolved. Residents of the ward who wish to attend should meet in the Community Room at Withernsea Hospital at 7.00pm.
- Thursday 8th July 2010
- A charity "Cake Break" is has been organised by Gaynor Mackman who suffers from multiple sclerosis. It is the second year she has held the event at her home in Hedon. Last year she raised £3,000 for MS sufferers. Family and friends are invited to drop by and pay £1 for a slice of cake and to take part in the raffle and tombola.
- Friday 9th July 2010
- The Withernsea Harriers are holding a Charity Fundraising Night at Ganstead Park in Coniston. The event is to raise funds for one of the members, Jim who will be running the New York Marathon for Children With Leukaemia. The evening will include sit down meal, entertainment from 'The Other 3', a bar and disco, a charity auction and a raffle. Admission is ticket only and costs just £10. - Pier End Players proudly present their latest production 'Rocking All Over The World', a show of sparkling entertainment for everyone to enjoy. The show starts at 7.00pm on 9th July at Hollym Village Hall on North Leys Road in Hollym. Tickets are £2.50 or £2.00 for children and concessions.
- Saturday 10th July 2010
- Hedon's Christian Life Church are holding a breakfast gathering at The Haven Arms, on Sheriff's Highway in Hedon on Saturday 10th July from 9.00 am. The event is called 'Breakfast With a Slice Of Faith' and will feature special guest Kath Bradbrook who will be singing and sharing her faith. Entry for this informal gathering is £5.
- DJ Dave brings his Karaoke to Withernsea's Valley Gardens from around 11.00am, so why not come along have an ice cream and sing 'yer heart out!?
- It's the second day of the Pier End Players production 'Rocking All Over The World'. The show starts at 2.00pm on 10th July at Hollym Village Hall on North Leys Road in Hollym. Tickets are £2.50 or £2.00 for children and concessions..
- A Churches Together Teddy Bears' Service and Picnic will be held at Aldbrough Methodist Chapel from 3.00pm, so bring your own teddy, picnic and join in the fun!

- The Youth Band Showcase takes place in Valley Gardens, Withernsea from around midday onwards.
- Your last chance to see the latest Pier End Players production 'Rocking All Over The World' takes place at 2.00pm on 11th July at Hollym Village Hall on North Leys Road in Hollym. Tickets are £2.50 or £2.00 for children and concessions and you can reserve them by calling.
- Churches together in Withernsea invite you and your friends to Picnic, Play & Praise at St Matthew's Chruch Grounds on Sunday 11 July 2010 from 3pm. There will be Face Painting, Balloons and Strawberries and Cream. Bring you own chair (a prize for the best decorated chair) Bring your friends and we will all have a great time together!

- Monday 12th July 2010
- A 30 minute walk will set off from St Andrew Church, in Paull, led by volunteers from the community on Monday, 12 July at 11am. Anyone wanting to participate is asked to bring a drink and an umbrella just in case! Ample car parking, toilet facilities and refreshments will be available at St Andrew Church’s Riverside Pop-In Cafe. - Tuesday 13th July 2010
- The Pavilion Leisure Centre, in Withernsea, is hosting a tea dance, this and every other Tuesday from 2pm. The event is an ideal way to meet new people and make friends as well as dance to old time music, with advice from experienced instructor Ray Munkley. - South Holderness Technology College in Preston present a Summer Concert with the Lyric Singers from 7.00pm. - Wednesday 14th July 2010
- Patrington Young Farmers AGM takes place on Wednesday, 14th July 2010 between 7.30pm - 9.30pm in the Scout Hut, Patrington.
- The Haven Arms in Hedon host the Holderness Lions' Bingo Night. Lucky winners could win cuts of pork or chicken. The fun starts at 8.00pm and they promise a nice friendly atmosphere. It's £1.50 for two books of ten games per book. Contact Eileen at holdernesslions@aol.com for more information.
- Hornsea Leisure Centre are starting a series of informal 'Back to Netball' sessions for women on Wednesdays, between 8pm and 9pm. The sessions will take place in the sport hall and are for all women over 18 years of age, whether they are a keen player, not played since school or never played before. Sessions will be delivered by an experienced netball coach and are priced at £2 each with no need to book, just turn up and play. The aim is to have fun and develop game knowledge and ability. - Thursday 15th July 2010
- A meeting to discuss 'Skirlaugh’s vision for the future…' will be held at Skirlaugh Village Hall from 7.00 pm. The meeting is open to all parishioners to learn about the function of a Village Parish Plan and how it can affect the future of Skirlaugh. Housing, NHS, local sport and community groups could all be affected in the future, and the Parish Plan is a structured document which will lay down guidelines for the future development of Skirlaugh. For the Parish Plan to be successful Skirlaugh needs the involvement of community members so as to cover all aspects of the village and village life. - This years Hornsea Carnival kicks off from 6.00pm with a formal opening by the mayor of Hornsea, Councillor John Whittle. Entertainment includes a Children's Disco at the Floral Hall from 6pm until late, as well as Cookery Demonstrations, A Floral Display, Live Music and more in 2 marquees.

- The Round the World Clipper Yacht Race ends in Hull at the Marina Tomorrow, but why not KEEP IT LOCAL and enjoy these events right on your doorstep in Holderness...
- Day two of Hornsea Carnival gets underway from 10.00am with an all new food court, a fun fair, farmers market and lots of different stalls. The carnival floats will be gathering at Hornsea School on Atwick Road for judging at 11.30am, before taking to the streets for their annual route around the town at 12.30pm. Later in the day in the main arenas you can enjoy a dog display team, a chainsaw cutting display, and a wild west show.
- Withernsea AFC Annual Junior Tournament starts its weekend of fun and football for boys from across the area, they've even had teams from as far as Devon enter in previous years. The Saturday is the younger age groups and the Sunday the older age groups. The winner of each age group gets an individual trophy for each squad member and the shield for that age group. As well as just the football there are lots of different events and activities throughout the day. As well as having a bar and a tuck shop selling sweets and ice lollies etc, there's a tombola, burger and hotdog bar and a bouncy castle. - TOKUI Karate union are holding introductory karate courses for beginners aged 6 years old and upwards. - Preston Village Show takes place at Sandhill Country Park on Saturday 17th July 2010. Gates open at 12.30pm and you can take part in an Army climbing wall, archery, tug of war, produce competitions, dog show, childrens' races, raffle, tombola, side shows and a car boot. Lots to do for everyone, with food and drinks available. The event closes at 6.00pm. Come along and don't forget to get your entries in early, schedules in all local shops. - Local band The Shine will be appearing at the Hornsea Floral Hall as part of the Hornsea Festival. They take to the stage at 1.30pm.
- Humberside Police have arranged a Police Surgery for the residents of the Hedon area to be held at the Co-op store on Hull Road in Hedon, HU12 8DJ. So if you want advice, or you want to find out more about police services, call by on Saturday 17th July at 3.00pm and have a private meeting with a member of the neighborhood team.

- Sunday 18th July 2010
- The final day of Hornsea Carnival kicks of from 10.00am with a taple top sale and a chuch service from 11.45am. Later in the day you can enjoy a motorycle stunt show from Jezz Avery, a dog display show and a circus workshop. The event comes to a close to the sound of the East Riding Youth Band.
- DJ Dave warms up Valley Gardens in Withernsea with his usual mix of tunes from 11.00am, followed by vocalist Mr G who takes to the stage at 1.00pm.
- Want to keep fit and enjoy some local scenery? St Andrew's Church in Paull have organised a 60 minute walk which will set off from the church on Sunday, 18th July at 1.30pm. Anyone wanting to participate is asked to bring a drink and an umbrella just in case! - Hornsea Chamber of Trade are holding a Race Night at The Victoria Inn, Hornsea. The first race is at 8pm with horse and race sponsorship available throughout. It promises to be great fun and you could end up a richer person!
- Friday 23rd July 2010
- Hull Male Voice Choir will perform at the Northfield Country Club on Friday, July 23. The concert has been organised by Withernsea and District Lions Club and begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are available on the door.
- Decent soul music is a rarity in these parts, so the next nearest thing is at the Hull Soul Club. It takes place montly and the next one is on July 23rd 2010 from 8.00pm till 01:30am with 1.00am bar. DJs Steve Woomble Shaun Kearney playig a selection of Motown, Northern & Modern soul in the back room at Trades & Labour Club, 37 - 39 Beverley Road, Hull, HU3 1XH. - Beverley Brass Band will play a concert at Leven House, Beverley Road, Leven, on Sunday, July 25, from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. Admission is £2.50, including car parking, and accompanied children go free. Music-lovers are invited to bring their own picnics and chairs for the event, which includes a tombola and a raffle.
- Day 2 of "Withernsea Tales" from the Withernsea Entertainers takes on Sunday July 25th in the grounds of Withernsea Lighthouse. The show starts at 6:00pm.
- The Pier End Players Amateur Dramatics Society meet every Sunday to rehearse for their 2 yearly productions. All are welcome either to perform or be in the back-stage crew. - A snorkelling course will be held at Hornsea Leisure Centre in Broadway starting July 26. People of all ages are welcome and the course costs £22.50 per person. - Swimming crash courses for children aged 5 years and over get underway at South Holderness Leisure Centre in Preston. The lessons consist of five half hour sessionsrunning Monday to Friday from 10.00am - 10.30am and 10.30am - 11.00am. The course costs just £19.50 for the week and runs until 3rd September. - Withernsea High School's Extended Services Summer Activities take place at the school on Hull Road on Monday 26th July 2010. Call (01964) 614708 for more information or to book a place for any of these events:
- You can join in with 'Space Crafts' between 10.00am - 12.00pm. This arts and crafts activity is based on rockets, aliens, spacemen, galaxies, starts and comets and all ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is £2 per session.
- A Trampolining session for youngsters aged 10 - 14 takes place between 1.00pm - 3.00pm. Trampolining is a fun filled activity which helps with co ordination and teaches basic skills, suitable for beginners and those that have bounced before. It's just £2.50 per child.
- An 'Airfix' model building class runs from 1.00pm - 3.00pm for Children aged 9 - 16 yrs. Come along and make planes, cars, bikes and much much more!! The price is £2 per child and further information can be found bycalling FISH on (01482) 396469.
- A Clearance Auction will take place at Withernsea Recycled on Monday 26th July at the Sales Yard next to the Pier Hotel in Withernsea. Come along andpick up a bargain from 6.00pm.

- Tuesday 27th July 2010
- The Cornerstone Coffee Shop, in St. Augustine's Church, Skirlaugh is open this every Tuesday Morning from 9.30am to 11.30am.
- Hornsea Art Society's 40th annual exhibition will be open to the public from Tuesday, July 27, to Saturday, August 7. The event takes place at the Masonic Hall, Alexandra Road, Hornsea, from 10.00am to 5.00pm. The theme is ruby, to coincide with the 40th anniversary. This year there will be a new trophy, named in memory of Mavis Hardwick who died suddenly on December 21, last year. It is for the category of work called nostalgia in recognition of her style of painting.
- The first performance of Hornsea Amateur Theatre Society's summer pantomime 'Robinson Crusoe' takes place at The Floral Hall, Hornsea. Doors Open at 7.00pm and the show starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £6 for adults with £5 for concessions. If you can't make this performance, don't worry as it's on every Tuesday night of the school summer holidays until 31st August.

- Friday 30th July 2010
- Hornsea Leisure Centre invite you to join them every Friday morning for a racket sport coaching session. For complete beginners or kids wanting to improve their technique allare welcome to come along and get coaching tips. The session takes place between 10.00am - 12.00pm on 30th July.

- Holderness Day Services, Victoria Avenue Day Centre, Withernsea present a "Hog Roast Social evening" at the Day Centre on 30th July 2010 from 7.00 pm till late. Tickets are £5.00 each and include the Hog Roast and entertainment from award winning entertainer and singer Gary Marsden and a late bar. Tickets can be purchased from the Day Centre Mondays to Fridays 9.00 am to 4.00 pm and families are welcome.
- Saturday 31st July 2010
- A Stitch in Thyme is a creative stitches, quilts, patchwork and flower exhibition taking place at All Saints Church, Main Street, Preston from 31st July. There will also be stalls and refreshments available. It's £2 entry and it runs from 11.00am to 5.00pm. Contact Mrs Susan Thorpe on to find out more details.
- The 200th anniversary of a lifeboat being stationed at Spurn Head will be marked with an exhibition by 'Skeals'. The 'Spurn, Kilnsea and Easington Area Local Studies' group have organised displays at the Community Hall in Easington from Saturday, July 31, from 11.00am to 4.00pm. Coxswain/Superintendent Dave Steenvoorden, of the Humber Lifeboat Station, will open the exhibition and their will be other guests too. Historical books will be on sale at the exhibition, including Memories Of Spurn In The 1880s by George Jarratt, whose father was a lifeboatman at Spurn from 1883 until 1891, and Easington Lifeboat, A History 1913 – 1933 by Mike Welton.
- Local band, The Licks play at the last day of Withernsea carnival week in Valley gardens from 7.00pm.
- Wassand Hall present "An Evening Of Music And Mirth" under cover at their walled gardens from 7.30pm. The evening welcomes back artistes such as Peter Sutherland, Peter John, Juddith Hibbert, Lorraine Hart and Charles Miller. Also, Rory Russell and Elizabeth Salvidge will perform selections from the vast world of music and comedy to titillate. - Local band Happy New Beer perform at The Barn Farm pub in Camerton, HU12 9NQ. The gig starts around 8.30pm.
