Mike Brown's Pub of the Week: The Victoria in Hornsea, East Yorkshire

Howdy!
For this weeks pub of the week, we take a trip to Hornsea, and after much deliberation we decided to choose The Victoria on the Market Place, but don't worry Pike & Heron and Rose & crown, I love pubs, so it's only a matter of time before I stop by.
The Victoria is a long standing icon in Hornsea and has a heritage dating back to the 1840's when it was called the Prince Of Wales. It's one of those pubs that has something for everyone, obviously there's a bar, suitable for drinking-types, a restaurant area for eating-types, and a games area for those who can fathom out what darts and pool are about... personally, drinking and eating are my two biggest hobbies!
Draught drinks available include Carlsberg, Carling, Fosters, Stella, Worthingtons, Tetleys Smooth, Guiness, Strongbow and a Wine, but I prefer to go for a real ale, of which there were 3 available on my visit. I'm pretty certain they were Tetley's, Black Sheep, and an ale from Copper Dragon. As for the food menu, it was filled with a range of traditional pub grub, and a range of grilled meats and fish, including a 12oz Rump steak and rock grilled Tiger prawns. Decisions decisions eh?!
l ordered a pint of Copper Dragon ale and ordered the chicken curry from the nice, smiley, lady at the bar. The ale was well-kept and went down well too, then about 10 minutes later my curry arrived and was served with a poppadom, chutney and chips, I've always prefered chips over rice for some reason. The food was well presented and tasted nice, although the portions were a little on the small side, on this occasion that was fine by me as I didn't have a big appitite. However, on my next visit I'd be rather tempted to stock-up on starters and side orders, or perhaps order a dessert for afters.
Whilst there, I noticed posters dotted around the place advertising live music, quiz nights, race nights and other such evening entertainment, which really did tempt me to want to experience the Victoria on a night time, and as I love my live music maybe I will!
The Victoria is located at 39 Market Place, Hornsea, East Yorkshire, HU18 1AN and you can call the pub on (01964) 533133.
Cheers!
Mike.
