Manakins, Lily the Pink & this weeks show!

Howdy all,

Just me again bloggin' with the latest from the weird world of The Mike Brown Radio Show.
I've had a pretty quiet week for once, and to be honest I think I needed it after burning the candle at both ends (and in the middle) the week before.

I paid a visit to The Lamp on Norfolk Street in Hull along with my fellow Seaside FM presenters Big Simon Harris and Paul & Donna Ashworth. The reason we were all attracted out on a school night was to see Sandi Thom and Dave Abbott.

Paul's former guest and local performer Dave Abbott was on first, so I managed to grab a chat with him after his performance. I recorded the chat with Dave in the cosy seated area and there were two girls sat behind up having a chin wag about something. When I had finished the interview they shouted across and said "owwww I didnt realise you were an interview, you didnt hear any of our dirty conversation did you???" Now, I have listened back to the interview 27 times and I still can't make out the words their saying!!! Its a bit like that scene in the film 'Basic Instinct', you know the bit where Sharon Stone uncrosses her legs? I think I broke my remote control trying to pause the video in just the right place! Anyway, my conclusion was that she doesnt actually have anything down there and is infact smooth like a manakin.

Anyway, where was I?! Oh yeah, Sandi Thom!!! She performed an intimate set which actually went down really well with crowd, I even saw Paul Ashworth tap his foot at one point! Obviously, the highlight of the night was when Sandi sang her smash hit "I wish I was a punk rocker", the audience just went wild!

I've got to be honest, I never thought I was going to get close enough to Sandi for an actual interview as there were just far too many people hanging arond her. In the end, I ended up queuing with the autograph hunters at the end of the night, luckily I was last in the line otherwise the person behind me would have had a long wait for her to sign a bit of paper! She spoke to me for 10 minutes and looked scared to death of me throughout most of it!

She told me about her new album "Pink & The Lily", which I managed to get muddled up with "Lilly the pink", you know the one that goes "We'll drink the drink to drink, to Lilly the pink, the pink, the pink, the saviour of the human ra-aa-aace!" Obviously, after that cock up I had to turn on the old Mike Brown charm to rescue the interview! Luckily, she didnt leg it and hung around to tell me about the rest of her tour and what its like living on the tour bus with her band. Here's Sandi's official website http://www.sandithom.com or she has a myspace site too, just go to http://www.myspace.com/mikebrownfallingdown and its on my front page.

Since then ive been chillin' really, although I did attend a Hull Comedy Festival meeting on Monday in an attempt to get a comedy night set up in the Holderness area somewhere, more about this a) if it happens and b) when we get closer to the time.

This week looks set to be another busy show. I've got an interview with the boys from local band 'Fine 69'. The group are a "sleaze rock" band. Also local performer Sam Jones will poping in to play us some of his songs live in the studio. I've also lined up Alan Canvess from the Campaign for Real Ale to give us the lowdown on this years Hull Real Ale Festival (which is taking place soon) and James Christopher the host of the Carnivale 69 Comedy Night taking place later on Sunday Night.

Have good week and I'll talk to you on Seaside FM this Sunday,
Mike.
