NEW PLAY AREA FOR THORNGUMBALD

A replacement play area has been officially opened in Main Street, Thorngumbald, thanks to £30,000 of commuted sums funding from East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
The money, which came from M Ralph and Sons Ltd as part of a section 106 agreement for a local development in Main Street, has been spent on toddler equipment, including swings, balance beams, stepping stones, wobble board and multi-use play unit, as well as exercise equipment, including an inclined horizontal ladder, step bench, abs bench and shoulder press.
The area was consulted on with local residents by Thorngumbald Parish Council, who led on the scheme, and is open for all age groups.
Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for rural issues and cultural services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The new play area has been specifically designed to be accessible and welcoming to all those who may want to use it.
"It is commonly accepted that all children need to play to help develop skills for adult life and I am sure that the play and exercise equipment will be well-used by the local community and will create a family atmosphere and enhance the social value of the site.”
