Mike meets Nat Roe

This is me with local singer Natalie Roe.

Nat came down one Sunday to tell me all about her sonwriting and what she had been up to since she started. She told me how she started playing and writing songs in 2005 on the ukelele, the first being "Jack the Goldfish", about her dead goldfish! She later formed a band with her friend Becki called "The Go Johnny Go Go Go Go's", they supported Kimya Dawson at the Adelphi. Then in October of that year nat told me she went solo and ended up supporting 'Cracktown' at their Christmas party.

Nat Roe told me that her influences come from the likes of The White Stripes, The Moldy Peaches, Arlo Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Billy Bragg, Cracktown, the Housemartins, Pog, Carole King, Monty Python and the Beautiful South. None of this explains Nat's quirky songs like the one about Carrots or her dead goldfish, Jack! It was nice to hear something that wasn't too serious though, and her song about Hull called "Hull Baby" was fantastic!
