Howdy!

I trawl through the villages and towns of the East Riding every week in order to find a watering hole that I think you should visit. Last week I went to Hollym and payed a visit to The Plough Inn.

The Plough offers hot and cold drinks, real ales, bar food, bed & breakfast accommodation and is the only pub there is in Hollym!

The menu isn't as extensive as some of the other food pubs I have been to recently, but good none the less. Some of the choices were...

  • Pork chop, lamp cutlet, chicken breast or gammon steak, with either chips or mash and veg or salad.
  • Sausage, egg & chips.
  • Chicken and mushroom or steak and kidney pie, served with beans, peas or mushrooms.
  • Giant Yorkshire pud filled with with a cumberland sausage ring, fried onion, mash and gravy.

There was also a list of specials on the day of our visit, which were mild chicken curry with coconut, vegetable madras, beef balti and chilli con carne.

Feeling peckish, I opted for the giant filled yorkshire pudding filled ...and, of course me being me, I finished it!!!

The normal menu doesn't operate on Sunday, instead they have Sunday Roast and trimmings, but you must be pre-book. You can take your pick from two roast meats, naturally served with roast potatoes, a selection of prepared fresh vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.

Other Information about The Plough in Hollym

The Plough Inn is run by Sue and Steve Martine, with daughter Rachelle and son-in-law Darren Maynard.

The Pub has not one, not two, but three bar areas. Namely, they are the public bar, the lounge and the games Room, the latter even has a jukebox!

The Public Bar is the oldest part of the building and dates from the 16th Century according to some sources, there is also a phase of 'Victorian' building, forming the 'Lounge Bar'. Sunday Lunches are also served in the Lounge and this bar is sometimes used for private functions.
The smoking ban has meant that the outside lighting has been improved recently and a covered area has also been made available.

As far as beers are concerned, the pub sells Tetley's Cask ale, but also stocks a rotating guest ales from the likes of the York Brewery, Idle Brewery, Dark Star Brewing Co, Wold Top, Fullers, Black Country Ales and of course the Holderness Area's very own Great Newsome Brewery.

The pub also has four B&B rooms, all of which have recently been redecorated and have their own en-suite bathroom, television, tea and coffee making facilities and views over the garden. If you stay, Breakfast is served in the lounge between 8.30 and 9.30am.
