Now then!
On The Mike Brown Radio Show this week, we featured two telephone interviews from Davinci's Band and James Christopher, but more about them in just a moment.
This weeks show was a bit of a struggle to be honest, not only was the equipment playing up AGAIN, but I was incredibly tired. On Saturday Night, I was out DJing again and I didn't get in until 4am, which is probably early for me! The thing is, I didn't actually plan to be DJing at all, and what I was suppost to be doing was enjoying The Freedom Festival in Hull's Valley Gardens with me mates Smifffy and Jake. I met up with them at the beer tent and managed to see Noah and the Whale, who were very good and then I read my texts, which said something like "NOT BK FRM W'BLEY YET, DO U WANNA DJ 2NITE?" Luckily, I had filled-in at this particular club the week before so I knew what to expect, so I said "sure bring it on!" It was an 80's night and me being a kid of the 80's I loved every minute. I played Duran Duran, Kajagoogoo, Yazz, Adam Ant, Bros, Spandau Ballet, Rick Astley, and of course Wham! Infact, you name any Wham! record and I guarentee that I played it. It goes back to when I was just starting out as a mobile DJ and I found that if ever the dance floor was empty, just stick on Wham! and people dance, it doesn't seem to matter about their age, sex or religion, people love Wham! FACT!
Anyway, as I had spent the night being a club DJ, I over looked the fact that I might actually need to have some sleep before getting up on Sunday Morning and coming into Withernsea to do my radio show. The show itself was a bit of a bumpy ride, but I think we got away with it, I sent Dave Rymer out to spy on a local public house for Pub Of The Week. We decided on The Station Hotel in Patrington as I've heard some good reports from friends about it. You can read Dave's full report here.
I particularly enjoyed playing a track from Davinci's Band on the show, there a newly established London based band whose influences come from it seems every possible genre of music, soul, folk, blues, jazz, heavy-rock, classical and contemporary music in particular. Now, the interview didn't go amazingly well due to the joys of mobile phone signals, but what I did find out was that the trio is made up of Scottish born Ian Saint John, Danish Casper Christensen and Chinese/British guitarist Derek Yau and you can see them in Hull this Tuesday at Sharkey's on George Street. You can read more about them and here some of their music at www.myspace.com/davincisband and I strongly recommend that you do.
Next, I spoke to James Christopher who is headlining a comedy in Hull this Wednesday Evening. James has appeared on the show before and he recalled the time that I said he had ginger hair and that made him change his profile photo on his myspace and facebook pages! Well, he is ginger, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with being ginger, I just thought I'd point it out!! Anyway, judge for yourself this Wednesday at 8pm at The George Hotel in Hull at The Land of Green GINGER! Tickets are just £3.50 or £3 with NUS.
Another one of my interviews has appeared on Youtube recently, it was filmed at the Summertime Special on 24th August and it's me talking to the lead singer on the local tribute band 'Kinked', in his car! There is also footage of me talking to The 45's who performed in Withernsea on the same day. This interview was done at Seaside FM during the show and gives a great insite into what goes on in the studio when guests come in! I'll give you more details on how to view these soon.
That's it from me for now, thanks for reading and keep checking back to seasideradio.co.uk as it's the only website in Holderness that is updated constantly!
Take care, Mike.
P.S It's my birthday on 14th of September, so I'll be having a few drinks, anyone up for it!?
