Administrators have said that Woolworths stores in the region will begin closing after Christmas, with the Withernsea branch closing it's doors for the final time on 2nd January.

The schedule of closures in East Yorkshire will see the Driffield branch close on 30th December, then Beverley, Bridlington and Withernsea on 2nd January, while the Hull branch will stay open until 5th January.

Meanwhile, an eleventh hour rescue attempt by a Woolworths executive could see some of the healthier outlets, such as Hull, saved under the Woolworths brand name.

The news comes as Zavvi, a company supplied by Entertainment UK, the distribution arm of Woolworths, has also gone into administration.
