Paul Stellings gets ready to go live.

Vixen 101 is the new community radio station covering a population of about 27,000 in the Market Weighton, Pocklington, Holme-On-Spalding Moor and the West of the Wolds area.

Like Seaside FM, the station will play a large variety of music from the 1940s to the current top 40. Vixen will also cover news and sport, community issues, as well as supporting local voluntary and charitable organisations.

Long-term hospital radio presenter and Vixen 101's founder, Paul Stellings realised that people in the west of the wolds area were simply not being served by the existing radio services, and that a community station would be an excellent addition to the ongoing Weighton Area Regeneration Partnership scheme.

The radio station was originally known as Vixen 87, and made its first of nine broadcasts in May 2003 using a restricted service licence, this allowed them to broadcast for 28 days at a time. Vixen Broadcasting Ltd. then decided to apply for a permanent community licence which was awarded to them by OFCOM in April 2008.

Originally, the station was going to be named "Vixen 900" after its new frequency of 90.0 FM. However, OFCOM decided on 101.8 FM and after a few changes, Vixen 101 was born! The station went live at 1:01pm on Saturday 10th January 2009 from its studios in Market Weighton.
