The technology giant's Prime service offers free unlimited next day delivery, entertainment and live sport streaming.

The Prime subscription will increase from £7.99 a monthly to £8.99 from 15 September for new customers, or on the date of the customer's next renewal of the service.

The annual membership cost will increase from £79 to £95 a year for UK customers. it will be the first increase since 2014.

A spokesperson for Amazon said: "With increased inflation and operating costs in the UK continuing to rise, we will change the price of Prime."

It comes only months after Netflix added extra fees onto their service with the cost of its standard plan increased by £1 and its premium plan stretched by an extra £2.

Netflix's previous price increase was only 18 months ago.

Amazon have been ploughing billions into its streaming content over the years and recently spent £750 million in rights and filming costs for the release of The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings of Power series on its Prime video platform in September.
