Now a regular fixture in the model railway calendar, members of the Yorkshire Wolds Railway (YWR) are busy finalising arrangements for their annual model railway show.

Now in its 7th year, the event will be held in Driffields largest events space, the Rix Pavilion on Driffield Showground on Saturday 9 March 2024 from 10am until 4pm.

Business Development Director of the YWR Katy Bowser explained "Many of the layouts coming have not been to Driffield before including Low Fell, Padsbridge and Fox Valley. We will also have a large clockwork layout in 00 gauge that is sure to raise an interest. A number of the models are actually based on local areas, such as Settrington and Spurn Point, and seeing these in miniature and the effort modellers go to, to replicate the smallest detail is fascinating and we can't wait for visitors to come and see them." There will be many other layouts on display along with trade stands from other heritage railways, tombola and refreshments.

Katy continued "the model railway show remains the main fundraising event for the YWR, and we look forward to seeing as many visitors as possible and all the money raised goes back into keeping the YWR on track. Entrance to the show costs £7 for adults, and £4 for children under 16 whilst YWR members can get in for £4 – so don't forget your membership card!"

The first public running day for the YWR of 2024 will be Sunday 31 March. Visitors will be able to take a train ride in the brake van launched into traffic at the end of 2023 along the quarter of a mile of track at Fimber Halt located between Wetwang and Fimber.

The YWR is always keen to involve new people, and anyone interested in becoming a member or volunteering, making a donation or just finding out more can visit the Yorkshire Wolds Railway website or call 01377 338053 for more information. The YWR will be running trains and opening the visitor centre every Sunday and Bank Holiday from Easter until the end of October and every Wednesday during school holidays from 10 - 4. All trains run subject to availability. The visitor centre only will be open every Wednesday from Easter until the end of October from 10 - 4. Additionally, there are members on site most Saturdays who will be happy to show what is being done, subject of course to safety requirements.
