There is still time to have your say on East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s proposals to build a new crematorium in the Holderness area, near Preston.
A number of public consultation events were held last week, which were well attended, but people still have the opportunity to give their feedback on the proposals by completing an online survey, which closes on Sunday, 6 September.
The survey is available at bereavementservices.eastriding.gov.uk
While some initial design impressions have been developed for the proposed new crematorium, it is important that local communities and residents have their say on the design. This is being explored through the council’s consultation. The feedback received so far has been very encouraging and will be carefully considered as the council moves forward with a planning application.
“We hope that, through this consultation, local people appreciate how much focus is being put into creating a much-needed facility with a sense of place at its heart,” said Councillor Richard Burton, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council
“The new crematorium would help families and friends to remember and celebrate the lives of their loved ones in a positive and enriching way.”
It is hoped that a planning application will be submitted in the autumn.
Once a planning application has been submitted, there will be a further chance for local people to have their say on the plans during the formal public planning consultation process.
Following the planning application, the council’s cabinet will then consider the business case and the outcome of planning in January 2021. If approved, work would take place between August 2021 and July 2022 and it is anticipated the new facility would be open to the public in autumn 2022.
