An improvement scheme for a road at Sigglesthorne, near Hornsea, is due to get underway next week.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is investing £100,000 in a ‘green’ approach to road maintenance which cuts carbon emissions compared to traditional techniques.
The project will improve the condition and skid resistance of the B1243 Rise Road, with work due to start on Monday 27 March.
The project will take place between Rise Lane and Catwick Heads junctions near Sigglesthorne and is scheduled to last eight days, weather permitting, with work being carried out between 8am to 7pm, Monday to Saturday.
The existing road will first be repaired in localised areas, before a retexturing process is carried out on the road surface to regain its skid resistance and extend the life of the road.
The retexturing process will reduce the amount of carbon dioxide produced by over 76,000kg and save around 1,500 tonnes of new aggregates from being used.
The road will need to be temporarily closed while the work is carried out, to ensure the safety of the travelling public and the workforce.
A signed diversion route will be in place via Rise Lane, A614 Whitecross Road, A1035 and Rise Road at Sigglesthorne.
Access will only be permitted for homes within the works area.
The scheme will be carried out by contractors Britcon (UK) Ltd/Specialist Surfacing Ltd, and sub-contractor JMS Lincoln Ltd, on behalf of the council.

“The scheme isn’t scheduled to last too long. When it’s finished, people will experience an improvement to the road surface.”
