But who is he, and what do we know about these allegations?

Who is Geraint Davies?

Mr Davies represents Swansea West, a seat he has held since 2010.

He was first elected as an MP in 1997 as part of Tony Blair's then New Labour landslide, representing Croydon Central until 2005.

Mr Davies was out of parliament between 2005 and 2010.

He is currently a member of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs committee.

He served as its interim chair when Neil Parish stood aside last year after being caught watching pornography in parliament.

What are the allegations against him?

Allegations of sexual harassment came to light in a report by Politico.

A woman submitted a formal complaint to the Labour Party after the report was published on Thursday.

A former parliamentary staffer also made fresh allegations about Mr Davies to Sky News, saying the veteran backbencher made "inappropriate advances" towards her.

The "advances" when she was working as a young researcher in the early 2000s included "sexual comments and inappropriate touching" - and he only stopped after she threatened to tell someone.

Another of the party's MPs said she had heard numerous complaints from women regarding his behaviour, telling Sky News: "He's certainly made me feel uncomfortable over the years... just always standing too close and being weird."

Two of his colleagues told Sky News Mr Davies had "boasted" about bringing sex workers into parliament for drinks.

How has Labour responded?

Mr Davies has been "administratively suspended" from the Labour Party pending an investigation.

Sky News has seen evidence the Labour Party whips' office was made aware of allegations many months ago, but did not take action.

A Labour Party spokesperson said: "These are incredibly serious allegations of completely unacceptable behaviour.

"We strongly encourage anyone with a complaint to come forward to the Labour Party's investigation.

"Any complainant will have access to an independent support service who provide confidential and independent guidance and advice from external experts throughout the process."

What has Mr Davies said?

Mr Davies has not responded to any of Sky News' requests for a statement.

Regarding the claims published by Politico, he told the website: "I don't recognise the allegations suggested and do not know who has made them. None of them, as far as I know, has been lodged as complaints with the Labour Party or parliament.

"If I have inadvertently caused offence to anyone, then I am naturally sorry as it is important that we share an environment of mutual and equal respect for all."
