Whaley Bridge: Police had earlier responded to report of burglary at property where teenager was shot dead

May 03, 2024

The property where a teenager was shot dead and another suffered a gunshot wound had been visited by police the day before following reports of a burglary, Derbyshire Constabulary has said.

A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder after police were called to reports of a burglary at a home on Eccles Road in Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire, at 1.20am on Wednesday 1 May.

Officers attended the property and found the teenager who had been shot dead and the second teenager who had been wounded.

Police have now confirmed that officers had attended the same property on the afternoon of Tuesday 30 April after receiving reports of a burglary.

The force has said it is "keeping an open mind as to whether the two incidents are linked".

Police have said the man who suffered fatal gunshot wounds was in his late teens and not the owner of the property.

The second teenager was found near the property in the same road.

He has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary as he remains in hospital with serious injuries.

A fourth man, who is in his 20s, was also arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary after the vehicle he was travelling in was stopped on the A6 in the afternoon of Wednesday 1 May. He remains in police custody.
